Serena and Nate have been bestfriends for as long as they remember. They knew everything about each other. Everyone thinks they'd make a great couple but they insist that they are just friends.

At the beginning of junior year, Serena started to feel something else for Nate, Serena began to notice how handsome Nate was, how caring, thoughtful and what a gentleman he was. She often found herself staring at him and smiling at things she used to think were trivial. No matter how much she denied it, it was true. She had fallen in love with her best friend. Nate on the other hand, needed his best friend more than ever. Nate had ended his relationship with Victoria a couple of months before. Victoria still hasnt moved on and is still confessing her love for Nate. Serena is just watching from the background, she knows exactly how Nate feels about Victoria. He doesnt love her anymore, instead his heart has been captured by Nelly. And the worst part is, Nelly feels the same way.

Serena is really hurt by what has been going on with Nate. She's jealous, angry and wallowing in self pity. She wishes she could tell Nate about her feelings but she isnt brave enough. Besides, his happiness matters more than her own. Serena desices that it isnt worth it anymore, Nate loves someone else now, she'll just have to accept it. She painstakingly stops loving Nate and helps him build his relationship with Nelly. Serena even went as far as telling Victoria to back off from Nate because he's already inlove with Nelly. Victoria eventually stopped. Nelly has realized how important Nate was to her and that she loved him. With Serena's help, she was able to build and sustain a wonderful relationship with Nate. Serena was very happy for Nate and Nelly. Just a tad bit jealous. She was also proud that she was part of the cause of their happiness.

At the back of Serena's mind though, there was a voice that always said "What if you told him what you felt? Would you be in Nelly's place?"
